Sport And Welfare Officer

To promote good practice and safe sport for children, young people and adults.

Be Active is committed to promoting good practice and safe sport for children, young people and adults at a local level.

The Sport Welfare Project is being driven by Veronique Nani and the team who are part of the new national network of sport welfare officer.

How we can support clubs through providing additional, local support for club welfare officers:

· Signpost clubs to the right advice and guidance

· Work with club welfare officers to create a safer culture within the organisation

· Facilitate local training opportunities and events

· Create networks so that volunteers and staff feel better connected and informed

· Recognise, share and develop best practice

· Help raise awareness of safeguarding and welfare for young people and adults at local events

The Sport Welfare Officer role is not to advise or manage any welfare concerns. All concerns must be referred without delay in accordance with National Governing Body/Club Safeguarding Policy.

Veronique is keen to hear directly from clubs in order to discuss how we can provide support to local sports clubs by helping the Club Welfare Officers embed safeguarding policies and procedures, as well as sharing good practice. Veronique is keen to strengthen links across organisations working on welfare and safeguarding to support safe and inclusive experiences in clubs.

Veronique Nani

Sport and Welfare Officer

I joined the Be Active team in 2024 as Sport and Welfare Officer, a new role within the organisation. With a background as a qualified social worker since 2003, my career has been deeply rooted in safeguarding, where I've worked within various teams to support children, young people, and their families in implementing meaningful change.

In 2021, I transitioned from safeguarding within a local authority to become the Designated Safeguarding Officer for the Bedfordshire Football Association, a role which combined my passions for sport and safeguarding. I am committed to ensuring sport is a safe space for everyone and I remain dedicated to making sport environments safer, supportive and inclusive for all involved.
